As the title say, I agree you may be correct...and that inspires me more to contradict you - and me as well...

Developing the Creative Self -I

Into 5th term of my MBA and I am experiencing one of the most entertaining course this institute has to offer - Devloping the Creative Self (DCS). I hope to keep posting here all the creative work I do as a part of this course. And trace the journey of creative development of my self :-)

so here goes the first post.

Concept of exercise: Proverbs may be relied on to simulate ideation/ generate alternative ideas. In this exercise, you need think of weird ideas from the given proverb and use these ideas to solve the problem given to you.

Proverb: Man is the measure of all things
Ideas:
• All things are humane.
• All men are tailors.
• Calibration is very man-like.
• A 10 men idea is always heavier than 9 men idea, and it sinks all the 10 men.
• Woman like to be measured 
• Thoughts that travel at a speed of thousands of men per second.

Problem: Has marriage become irrelevant as a social institution today?
Solution:
This question has always been answered qualitatively and loads of blah bah has been already spitted out. I have attempted a quantitative research based approach to answer this “Burning” query. One needs to find out what is a measure of irrelevance of any institution in a society. We need to understand the factors that go into making an institution like marriage irrelevant and assign weights to them. Let’s attempt this (figure in parenthesis indicate weights in unit man):
• Occurrence ( +50 men)
• Marriage cases officially registered (+10)
• Aspiration for marriage (+30)
• Extra-marital affairs (-30)
• These affairs going to extreme of breaking marriage (-50)
• Physiological problem (-20)
• Psychological problems (-30)
• Pre-marriage affairs (-15)
• Inter-caste marriages (+15)
• Society despising such marriages (-15)
• Dowry issues (-20)
• Number of divorce cases filed (-10)
• Number of “out-of-court” settlements of these cases (+10)
• How many instrumentation engineers have successful marriages (+30)
• Number of single parents (-20)

A net positive score on these parameters will indicate that marriage is still a relevant social institution. A negative score will obviously mean otherwise.
